They Don't Make 'Em Like They Used To

This is the second broken hand trowel in a year! I blame it on the Campanula persicifolia. It is a freakishly tenacious plant, resisting my efforts to oust it from the garden. Now the benefits of my reliance on hard work rather than herbicides will be rewarded by the generation of more garbage. Maybe the spade was made in China -- there seems to be alot of recalls on Chinese items recently...

First time visit for me. I'm sorry about your trowel. I recommend you go to the Lee Valley tool website and order one of the Dutch handmade garden trowels. They are expensive, but I've found they are indestructible.

Yeah, I looked at those and wondered if I really can justify hand-forged Dutch $$$$ tool. Maybe I will.

I have a hand trowel that I bought at the Bay about 12 years' ago. It is a one piece tool that seems to withstand anything. Wish I could remember the brand. It came with a fork in a wooden box and cost $15. The rubber around the handle is starting to wear, but the rest of it is as good as new.

Is it hot there too?

Interesting to know.

I came across your posting after doing an image search.

I realize that this comment is likely long past its potential for usefulness, but I'll leave it anyway.

I used to work for Lee Valley Tools and I still have a lot of respect for the company. Carol mentioned the trowels from LV. I wanted to second that and let you know that they really stand behind the products, so even though the cost is higher than some places, if you _ever_ had trouble with your tool, they would happily replace it. In the long run, the tools pay for themselves because you never have to spend money on a new one again!

I really enjoyed your pictures of the dragonfly that took a shine to you! I agree that they are beautiful- the long tail makes them seem so elegant. Without it, I think they'd be a bit scary!

Happy gardening.
