I just recalled a colorful dream I had last night. You know how it goes: these fleeting creations of the brain flit around and sometimes come back to us, often to our amusement.In my dream, I was standing amid one of my raised beds, noticing that several of my fall-planted bulbs were in bloom. And what blooms! Not only did the (borderline hardy) giant alliums come up, but there were freesias too! Yes, though I didn't remember planting them in the fall (and seriously, I didn't plant any), I had blooming freesias. I rationalized that they were probably some bonus gift from some mail order company. Wow. Even in my dream, I knew freesias had something like a zone 8 or 9 hardiness rating. I leaned in to smell them, and didn't smell much. Oh well, how much can you ask from a tropical flower growing in subarctic conditions?

When I was a little girl I dreamed of tulips in bloom in a wild part of our yard (there was untamed forest surrounding three sides of the yard). The dream was so vivid that I still remember it clearly. When I was little I often snuck over there to check if there were any magic tulips blooming :)
I often dream about plants and gardens too, I like those dreams.
Is your light stand a commercial unit or a "special fabrication"!
It sure helps the winter go by!

Clayton - my light garden is assembled from equipment purchased here and there - much sturdier and cheaper than the purpose-made ones from the gardening places. I posted the construction details in my "light garden setup" link on the top left column of my blog, if you are interested in the whole explanation.
Did you ever play that psychology game where you imagine you are a cube in a desert? And there is a horse? A ladder?

Well, the flowers represent children. Hmmm. Maybe you are about to BLOOM in unexpected ways ha ha~!!!!

Looking at the light setup I can't help but think the fixtures look bit too high. I no longer grow under lights but when I did I kept mine 3 - 4 inches from the top of the lights. (lower if the leaves didn't burn)
The only real difference in our setups is I used plastic sheeting to enclose mine to keep the warmth and humidity trapped where I needed it.
I can adjust my lights downwards if I need to, which is better for the plants. With some that grow faster and taller though, I'm probably won't be meeting every plant's needs all of the time!
