Vegetable Garden Seeded

For the record, I seeded some of the vegetables yesterday. Carrots, swiss chard, peas, various lettuces, and dill went into the tiny raised bed designated for the edibles. Last year's rhubarb, strawberries, green onions, French tarragon, and lovage have demonstrated their perennial hardiness and are showing signs of new growth. The French tarragon was a total gamble, since I wasn't sure if it would make it through the winter. Perhaps the large dandelion sheltering it or the three feet of snow helped. Other plants (tomatoes, pumpkins, edamame, thyme, parsley, and cilantro) are growing indoors for now. Last year I seeded the garden on May 15.
Though rather dismal-looking among the brown, the hopeful sight of fresh little garden markers is a pleasing sight:

The weather was nice enough yesterday and with the rain we have forecasted for the next week, I figure these seeds might get a nice start. Good luck, little seeds!

Nice to see the planting started. My wife has planted the radishes and lettuce into the garden. I finished closing in a little greenhouse but not before the bedding plants we bought got hit with frost. Bah. Looks like some will make it. I have a nice collection of Morning Glories and have started about 12 different kinds. Presoaked the seeds with a little H2O2 so hope it gives a little extra vigor. Good luck!

Good luck with the edibles! If you plant in May, around what month is your last harvest?

Amazingly I lost my French Tarragon this year - obviously due to too little snow over here :-) Though the Badger trampling across it didn't help either. I think I'll keep my next one in a pot.

I love chard! How do you prepare it? Just steamed? And what is lovage and how do you use it? Cheers!

Avis - Last year I made a swiss chard pie (cheesy, lots of egg, pre-made crust), which was rather like a quiche. It was fabulous. I'm not sure what all to do with lovage other than soups!
